About the Residential Tenancies List

The Residential Tenancies List (RTL) is within the Civil Division of the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. The RTL took over the jurisdiction of the former Residential Tenancies Tribunal on 1 July 1998.

The RTL receives, hears and determines applications made under the Residential Tenancies Act 1997, which came into operation on 1 July 1998 and the Fair Trading Act 1999. The RTL also deals with applications pertaining to "protected tenancies" under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1958.
