VCAT makes orders about restrictive and compulsory treatment for people with an intellectual disabilityDefinitionSignificant limitations in learning, reasoning and problem solving as well as everyday social and practical skills. These limitations originate before the age of 18. when there is a chance of them harming others.

We also review decisions made by the Secretary to the Department of Health and Human Services.

We make these decisions under the DisabilityDefinitionA condition that restricts a person's physical or mental capacity to interact in their environment. Disability can be temporary, situational or permanent. Act 2006.
