2023/24 Annual Report tabled to Parliament
6th December 2024
VCAT has tabled its annual report for the 2023/24 financial year. We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate the many achievements and milestones of the last year, during which we have renewed our focus on our purpose and foundational characteristics, and how these drive the value we create for the Victorian community.
Last financial year saw the success of our backlog recovery program in the Residential Tenancies Division, leading to a significant reduction in pending cases. Since June 2024, this work has been completed.
We have improved our operating model to help our users get an outcome as quickly as possible, redesigning our processes, work systems and technology to meet users’ needs at the earliest point.
We have made substantial progress towards digitising our case management and listing systems; in December 2023 we ‘went live’ with the civil claims component of our new case management system and we continue to move towards digital end-to-end process in our portal, digital files, and digital hearings.
We have made our services more accessible throughout Victoria’s communities by making greater use of our community-based venues, by increasing our presence at court facilities, and by building new partnerships with community legal organisations.
We have also made progress on our new CBD accommodation at 308 La Trobe Street, including extensive design consultations to ensure the new venue is equipped to service our changing needs into the future.
