Scam warning

Posted on 03 Dec 2018

We have received a high number of calls about potential scam emails related to VCAT applications.

Emails with these features may be scams to trick you into paying money or obtaining your personal information:

  • from, or addresses ending in .RU
  • containing zip files
  • with application or reference numbers like 576795-73349986 or similar – this is not the usual format for VCAT reference numbers.

Ignore or delete the email, and do not open the attachments as these could contain malware.

For more information about how scammers pretend to be government or other well-known organisations, see Consumer Affairs Victoria’s information on threat-based scams.
