The Liquor Control Reform Act 1998 governs the supply and consumption of liquor in Victoria.

Local Government Act 1989 and 2020

VCAT hears certain matters about the conduct of councillors, reviews certain decisions made by a Councillor Conduct Panel or the Secretary to the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, hears certain applications for relief from disqualification and hears reviews of disputes about the validity of local government elections.

Under some Acts of Parliament, VCAT has the power to review – reconsider – decisions made by an original decision-maker such as a government agency, a statutory authority or other Administrative decision maker.

VCAT can review some decisions made by the Secretary to the Department of Justice and Community Safety about the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) or Working with Children (WWC) clearances and exclusions.

Commercial Passenger Vehicle Industry Act 2017

VCAT can review certain decisions made by Commercial Passenger Vehicles Victoria (CPVV), which is responsible for regulating the commercial passenger vehicle industry in Victoria. We can also hear disputes about driver agreements.

You can apply to us if you want us to make an order for the sale or division of co-owned land or goods. We hear these applications under the Property Law Act 1958.

Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004

VCAT has power to review some decisions made by the Victorian WorkCover Authority under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004.

Children Youth and Families Act 2005 (Child Welfare Matters)

VCAT can review certain decisions made under the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005, usually where a child or the child’s parent applies.
