Following VCAT procedures

VCAT hears tens of thousands of cases every year. To help cases go smoothly, we use a range of legal procedures and documents.

When you apply to VCAT, we send you a notice or other documents with instructions on what to do next. Sometimes these are called 'orders'. Follow these instructions carefully and read the other materials we suggest, such as practice notes.

If you are a respondent or a party in a Renting a Home case, a Guardianship case or a Planning and Environment case, the applicant usually sends you the application form and any supporting documents. In other case types, these documents are sent to you by VCAT.
