Expanded civil mediation service now available

To help people resolve goods and services disputes, we are offering an expanded mediation service three days a week from 5 December 2017.

This service, provided with the Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria, helps people resolve disputes between $500 and $5000.

It is available at our main hearingDefinitionThe time and place at which VCAT hears the parties argue their case and makes a decision. venue in Melbourne and operates on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5 December 2017, extending to five days a week in February 2018.

The service will be available five days a week and begin in Barwon South West from February 2018. We plan to expand the monetary limit on disputes eligible for the service up to $15,000 and extend into other regions gradually over the next four years.

Victoria’s Access to Justice Review in May 2017 endorsed expansion of our alternative dispute resolution services for civil disputes. In May 2017, the Victorian Government supported this expansion with $6.25 million over four years to the Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria (DSCV).
